INSIDE MY STUDIO
."WHAT IS YOUR MEDIUM?" -I mostly use acrylic paint on canvas or birch plywood; depending on my mood or what I have on hand.
."WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS?"-I paint traditionally and experimentally, depending on the spirit of the piece. To see my process go to my blog "inside my studio" page.
."ARE YOUR PAINTINGS FOR SALE? IF SO HOW WOULD I AQUIRE A PIECE?"-I do sell my paintings; this is how I make my living. If interested please contact me through my email page.
."WOULD YOU CONSIDER DOING A COMMISSIONED PAINTING?"-I do commission work, however if I have a certain process I adhere to. I do several studies to find a mutual direction before I commit to under painting. All changes are made then. Once I put paint to canvas, no changes can be made and the sale is final.
."INTERESTED IN GALLERY REPRESENTATION?."-I am interested more gallery representation. If you curate for a gallery or are an art director and think I would be a good fit, contact me and let’s open a dialog.
."I AM CURATING A GROUP SHOW, INTERESTED?"-I am selective about group shows I participate in. I do not generally custom create for theme shows anymore; they are just too taxing and I feel the material leans into the category of illustration. However, if I have a piece that already works or I think the show shares a common message, I'm all ears.
."DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL FOR ART?"-I did not go to school for art. I educated myself through experience and the local library. Plus I come from a lineage of working class artists. This is something I am proud of.
."I SENT YOU AN EMAIL AND HAVEN'T HEARD BACK YET, WHAT GIVES?"-Give me two days to respond to questions and emails; I'm always knee-deep in multiple projects.
."I'M AN ARTIST WHO IS INTERESTED IN A TRADE, YOU IN?"-I'm sorry, but I do not do trades. I need my inventory to further my patronage.
."I AM IN A BAND AND WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU DO OUR POSTERS AND HANDBILLS, WHAT ARE YOUR TERMS?"- When doing commercial work, I generally keep the originals; However, I do offer the original at an additional price. Commercial work comes in any hi-res format you want.
."DO YOU HAVE TIME TO HOOK ME UP WITH A TATTOO DESIGN?"-please do not ask for free tattoo designs. I am too busy and this is how I make my living. Soon I will have black and white designs available in PDF for purchase on our Etsy shop-DNA Gallery.
."HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE ARTS?"-Want to know how you can support the arts? Buy prints and originals. This is how it becomes possible for any artist to continue with shows and new work. Artists need you!
Thank you,
Dave Miles
